Box-cutting Thoughts

Entertaining Angels

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Amid the exodus of people Kabul, we are mindful of the Exodus story of God’s people and these final words in Hebrews 13:1-3:

Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.

When the stranger is in need. When a disaster has put them into a milling throng, pressed up against a chain link fence, or facing certain death if they do not escape – this is not the time to ask theological questions. To pigeon-hole them into categories. It is the time to open our arms wide and our prayers even wider.
