Habakkuk stands at his post

Long ago, a prophet named Habakkuk made a promise:

“I will stand at my watch.”

One should imagine a military man on the rampart wall in the predawn silence. Habakkuk is a watchman, keeping his eye on the horizon. The destruction of the nation is at hand. After years of being proud of his country — with its trained soldiers at their posts to resist the incursion of any foreign adversary, while at home, dedicated civil servants, emergency personnel, and judges maintained the rule of law — Habakkuk finds himself witnessing the fall of his society. Those elected to high office have dismissed the judges, denied the restrictions of the Constitution, and sent the soldiers home without pay. Other prophets are saying that God no longer has a stake in this land. It was a difficult time, much like our own. But Habakkuk continues his lonely watch.

“How long?” He whispers to the darkness.

Then the Lord replied:

Write down the revelation    and make it plain on tablets    so that a herald may run with it.

For the revelation awaits an appointed time;    it speaks of the end and will not prove false.Though it linger, wait for it;it will certainly comeand will not delay.

No matter how bad things currently seem, there will come an end to the current administration. Pray. Gather with others who have faith. Resist.
